Type Locality and Naming

SE Tarim Basin. The Baxkorgan Gr was named by Feng Mingdao. The main reference section is in Saipulang, Pishan County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region).

Synonym: (巴什库尔干群)


Lithology and Thickness

The Baxkorgan Gr is dominated by greyish, grey and grey-green muscovite-quartz schist, sericite-chlorite-quartz schist intercalated with chlorite two-mica quartz schist and quartz sandstone sandwiched with marble and phyllite. The metamorphic grade varies from place to place. The group is subdivided into Zhasikancaihe Fm, Hunliuquan Fm and Beiketan Fm in ascending order. It is 8200 m in its maximum exposed thickness.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Bottom is not seen, because it is in fault contact with the underlying Altunshan Gr.

Upper contact

It is unconformably overlain by the Taxidaban Gr (Muzisayi Fm)

Regional extent

SE Tarim Basin. It is mainly distributed around Qiemo, Ruoqiang and Pishan on north slope of Altun Moutains, Xinjiang.
